Interim report: Successful directed share issue
Based on a directed share issue of 12.3 million new shares, the company received proceeds of approximately SEK 270 million before issue expenses. Several new Swedish and international institutional investors as well as certain existing shareholders subscribed for shares in the issue. The proceeds will be used to finance the company’s ongoing operations and the continued industrialisation of Azelio’s Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and Stirling-based electricity production technology, with the objective of reaching industrial volume production in 2021.

The company continued to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) during the quarter. An MoU was signed with ALEC Energy for capacity of 49 MW in the Middle East and North Africa, and one with Atria Power for capacity of 65 MW in India. At the start of the fourth quarter, an MoU was also signed with JET Energy for capacity of 45 MW in francophone Africa. Accordingly, Azelio has signed MoUs corresponding to a total of more than 418 MW, thus providing a solid base from which to build.

After the end of the period, Azelio generated data that entails that performance of its energy storage system can be verified in accordance with the specification of 13 kW output power with a storage capacity corresponding to 13 hours of electricity production. This basis is deemed to be adequate for Azelio to enter into smaller commercial projects and thus represents a milestone in the commercialisation of the system. This type of data and formal verification reports are tools for making projects with Azelio's technology bankable and will be available to customers for this purpose.

Interim report: New collaborations open markets in North and South America
In the second quarter Azelio signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) for energy storage in the North and South American markets. The largest was signed with California-based Trimark Associates and covers energy storage installations totalling 45 MW. Trimark offers a broad portfolio of energy solutions in the US, particularly monitoring and metering of solar farms and modernisation of the US electricity grid. Customers include power companies and the US Department of Defence. MOUs were also signed with the Mexican company CITRUS, which supplies renewable energy solutions to several different sectors, and with the Chilean company VOGT, which is the leading supplier of pumping systems to the mining industry in Latin America. VOGT wants to use Azelio’s technology to enhance its offering to clients and drive their pumping systems with cost-efficient and reliable renewable energy, instead of using diesel generators as today.

The verification project with certification company DNV-GL is continuing from Azelio’s installation in Åmål, Sweden, and will be supplemented later with data from the installation in Morocco. The current travel restrictions prevent entry into Morocco and therefore also the start-up of verification locally. Preparations for the next verification project in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Masdar and Khalifa University are continuing according to plan for installation to begin in Q3 2020.

Interim report: Azelio develops on plan or better – a technical breakthrough increases the potential
During the quarter the company announced a solution that allows its energy storage to also be charged using electricity, an important innovation beyond the stated plan. This broadens the uses of Azelio’s technology to include both solar and wind power, and also to more geographies.

Azelio’s CEO, Jonas Eklind, was awarded Mission Innovation Champion for Sweden.

An agreement has been signed with a sales agent for selling Azelio’s technology to deliver sustainable electricity to hospitals in Africa. In Pakistan, in the presence of Sweden's ambassador, a Memorandum of Understanding on reliable electricity supply in the country was signed. Dialogues have been initiated with the World Bank and UNHCR, among others.

In general, there is growing awareness of the need for substantial global expansion of micro grid systems for reliable baseload, not least as an alternative to today’s expensive and dirty diesel. This is attracting increased attention to Azelio’s unique sustainable and cost-effective technology.
