Azelio attended the live Stockholm broadcast of We Don’t Have Time’s Exponential Climate Action Summit on Earth Day, April 22nd. Here we share 5 takeaways from this important global event.
We Don’t Have Time is a review platform and social media network for individuals and companies such as Azelio, who aim to be a part of the solution to one of the greatest challenges of our time: global warming. During this year’s Earth Day, We Don’t Have Time hosted Nature in The Race to Zero, its 5th annual Exponential Climate Action Summit.
Azelio attended the Stockholm studio broadcast to hear the views of high profile speakers including the UN Environment Programme and the World Resources Institute. In addition, there was participation from a range of companies interested in exploring the interconnected roles of businesses and nature in reaching net-zero emissions by mid-century, to keep the global temperature below 1.5°C.
Here we share our 5 main takeaways from the Climate Action Summit.
1. Our current actions are not enough
There’s not a moment to lose in the fight against climate change. Despite many wins, positive developments, and a growing awareness of the issues and threats resulting from the warming of the earth – we need more significant action, and now is the time to embrace innovative solutions. Find out more about why we need to urgently cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, from the recent IPCC report: Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability.
2. Energy systems need to change
A critical part of the pathway to a safe global temperature will come from decarbonising the existing power sector, which accounts for roughly one-third of global emissions. To learn more about how the energy infrastructure can reach carbon neutrality with the smart deployment of energy storage, read the LDES Council’s report: Net-Zero Power: Long duration energy storage for a renewable grid.
3. We need to rethink our view of agriculture
There’s scope for a change of thinking when it comes to agriculture. Some see this industry only as a means of provision of food, but it’s not only a source – it also needs to be a focus area for reducing carbon. Developing localised, renewable agriculture solutions can greatly impact our need for a clean and efficient energy transformation. Read about how we can cut costs while reducing emissions through sustainable farming.
4. Products must be a climate solution, not a project solution
A sustainable solution should be integrated with the local community and the environment. When a product is to be introduced, its impact on the entire ecosystem must be considered. This enables room for long-term growth and development for people and the local economy. Technologies need to be adaptable, to preserve the natural habitat of the region and incorporate best practices.
5. We’re in it together!
The Climate Action summit Earth Day broadcast attracted a total of just over 13 million viewers, and a global audience from over 140 countries. Such a broad geographical reach is apt for the issues under discussion. We were reminded that collaboration is essential in mitigating and alleviating the adverse effects of climate change, not only in terms of limiting emissions and finding a consensus on rules and regulations for carbon offsets and credits, but fundamentally in accepting a shared responsibility for action.
How does Azelio work with renewable energy?
Azelio’s mission is to be the change in how we use renewable energy, with our long-duration storage solution. The limitation of solar and wind has always been that you receive the energy when nature wants to give it to you. Our TES.POD system harnesses clean energy, to make it available 24/7 as dispatchable heat and electricity with zero emissions. By using recycled aluminium to store the energy, providing unlimited cycles, and offering a system that is itself 99% recyclable at the end of its 30-year lifetime – TES.POD is a sustainable solution, offering a reliable and affordable alternative to fossil fuel sources.
