Azelio conducts final testing for unique pump system developed with Swiss company Egger
Azelio continues its progression towards the large-scale commercialisation of its Stirling engine based power storage solution, which produces cost-effective sustainable electricity on demand around the clock. The system’s unique long-term energy storage capacity – allowing for the production of electricity for 13 hours at nominal power – rests on a thermal energy storage solution. The key to the system’s effectiveness is the ability to pump sodium around it at a high temperature (600°C), which is why Azelio has collaborated with Egger – the world-leading manufacturer of advanced pump systems – to develop a tailored solution.
“The Swiss manufacturer Egger specialises in the development of pump systems that work with difficult mediums, and is therefore the most suitable partner for us as we develop a solution that meets our stringent power and performance requirements,” says Jonas Karlsson, Vice President of Development at Azelio.
In practice, the pump system drives heat through two pumps: one that heats the thermal storage unit while the other transfers heat from the storage unit to the Stirling engine.
The pump system has been tested, and it works well in controlled development environments. The system is now going to be verified by running a life-length test for 4,000 hours and by exposing it to real-life circumstances.
